Question, is it not safer to sail at or close to the same speed of the waves when sailing downwind in that kind of swell? Im sure the boat has the performance to sail at those speeds?
Wow.very visual, great if you Could put boat speed dial, wind Speed and direction too. On the side.i like boats on Anchorages not some ones Face talking about themselves.great job
Nice catamaran. If it has centre boards it is. What type.
Curious the comments of you throttling back when sensible. The beauty of a multihull is that you can sail safely and comfortably running in strong winds. And you can see those waves are quite steep and very close together. (If you want to see a Dragonfly giving it welly, there is great footage on RUclips of a 25 in the Round the Island Race. )
Bilder, Film prima. Lob, weil nicht soviel gesabbelt! Tut gut. Mook dat, wieder soo!
A vindo?
I'd say a bit too conservative....nothing wrong with being conservative but the boat was almost pooped, running jib only when you could've been running a good bit faster than the swell, and still not be pushing that boat
Echt cooles Video 😍
loud music, no music, waves, loud music, no music, people...loud music, waves, no. this vid sucks. try consistency next time.
How many days did you travel
anyone knows the brand of the catamaran?
sailing is one of those activities you can never learn enough about. People have been sailing for thousands of years yet it's constantly evolving through materials, engineering, and competition that the next new thing is always around the corner. Lithium batteries and satellite internet are becoming total game changers that could allow more people to roam the seas. Oh and trimarans are fascinating!
Boot top , aber Begleitmusik...
You did very well to save the ship from total loss.
Excelente Navegacion,!!!!! Me encanto.
Nice video

Hi,what size is she ?...cheers great video...
She looks smooth and pretty quick, as one would expect. How did she sail on the open ocean? 6:25 Portuguese?
Wow, great vid. I’ve just become interested in trimarans and this video seals the deal for me. Those waves starting after 18:14 . . . and the way she handles them. No words.
What model is the catamaran?
I have good memories of Sigma 36 and 362 from the 80s. Not so big and fat as to lose a touch of 'racing dinghy' feeling :-)
What would be your ideal number of crew on a trip like this?
I am confused: The air traffic is still closed ;-)
We did not cover the scenes, where we really flew...;-)
@@YachtskipperDe One of my greatest sailing weeks was on a dragonfly in Danish waters. They are so narrow with this speed!
@John E Some dragonflies circumnavigated the earth. There are no reports wether the water was blue.
I can find only one word: wonderful
Very NICE boat. Shipping must be horrendously expensive in Europe because I would have thought it would be cheaper and faster to truck the boat down to Portugal and put it in the Atlantic there. Would that have entailed import duties from France, Spain and Portugal though in addition to the hauling fee?
No Import fees; All western Europe is Schengen.
Thanks for sharing & happy to know you made it safely. This makes a point for glued in keels. I have 3 questions: Why you did not deploy the dagger-boards? And is there a difference between Catamarans & Trimarans in the way the sail in rough weather? Do you prefer the owners on board during delivery as they would be more tolerant when accidents happen? Thanks again for your time.
You don’t need dagger boards down wind. Though a little normally is required to balance the boat. When they hit the whale, you can see that the dagger board was down as it sheared clean off, though appears not to have damaged the hull. Glued in keels are not good, as you can see the mini keel, which is there to protect the propeller, was partly sheared off, and this is where the leak was. The ideal is kick up boards and rudders so you can slide over an obstacle
Great video !
Thanks!
Good vid ya'll, did you see the whale?
Hi! Yes, we saw the whale. It was a sperm whale, about 60 Feet long...It was blowing a lot like in shock. The catamaran picked up speed again and went on under Autopilot. We felt sorry for the whale, but did not really want to sail back... Regards from Hamburg/Germany
Good vid ya'll.
Thx!
War die Kollision versichert? Konnte das noch vor Ort repariert werden? Ist ja schon erheblicher Schaden enstanden.
Hi!
I have been wondering if the Dragon Fly 35 and now the 40 are robust enough for a Tras-Pacific crossing. This video seems to support that. I still wonder how these stunning boats will do in 40-50 knot winds. Not that we going looking for high winds, but in any ocean passage the likely hood of running into storm conditions is high. Thanks for the video. Well done.
I wonder also if these two floats are enough sturdy in big waves.
@@karelcuchal1550 ruclips.net/video/0Q9EmCPxCPs/видео.html The Dragonfly 28 can take 10 tons of force on the hull and floats. It's very strong.
Best but about a tri is you can outrun any storm
@@nickstrong7349 Nick, I don't buy into that whole "out run a storm" thing. Regardless of what the speed capibility of any ship/yacht/power boat is, odds are the "sea state" will not allow you to reach "Storm Escape Velocity". My 54' monohull has a hull speed of 9.5 knots. Now because I did not plan my passage correctly, I find myself in 45 knt winds on the nose, cross current of 3 knt, seas 2 mtr and building.....How fast can I go? When you find yourself in a situation that you must out run a storm you fucked up long before that! With todays chart-plotters, weather prediciton, sat-com and the ability to sync this all together you should never find yourself in the positition of having to out run anything other than a mean exwife. The best way to out run a storm is to avoid the situation. Remember brother with sea and ships there is only one thing a sailor can 100% control. That is the time you leave the dock. "Unload these sails make more room for whiskey down here, we got enough of this nautical stuff we need room for liquor and beer."
@@larryboles629 you know that planning a trip is a question of what a boat can do, how is maintenance was, where you are going to, and what the next 4 days is expected. Beyond that it is anyone's guess. Poor planning is the worst mistake you can make, regardless of the boat you sail in. So, your comments are null and void. Running from a storm is good seamanship, whatever direction you NEED to flee in. Speed always matters when on the run. You simply don't want to run high to the wind, that is the most dangerous game.
how does this kind of trimaran behave in rough seas. by rough seas i mean gale condition, with more than 4 meter waves. I'm really curious about the safety of these boats... i've seen some DF capsize in some videos, especially the 1200 and the 28
ALL DF capsizes were in racing conditions, where they are pushing to the limit and beyond
I am sure the vessel is more than capable of doing such trip. It is more a question are you mentally and physically capable of doing this.
Sailing downwind and the waves are overtaking you- undercanvassed?
How so? It was a job bringing a boat from A to B. That meant minimum damage expected unless it can't be helped. Don't think you understand the job of a transfer skipper. Ah well, there are some seriously under educated people out there, seems you are one of those.
When we were thin up more sails, we were going so fast that we did not have any control about the yacht anymore! Regards - the Yachtkipper-Team
@@Paul_C maybe unaware, rather than under educated. the job of a delivery crew is to deliver the yacht, and in as good a condition as possible at the end of the trip
Good 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Square running goose-winged on a trimaran? Surely got to be quicker tacking downwind with the gennaker.
...or maybe not! From twitter: /EarthBM/status/190527644394196992
Superb, thanks for sharing your passage with us
Hi-tec sails making 6.5 knots, something wrong. Looks like a great daysailer for the lakes but a little too much on the camping side for liveaboard.
In that situation we were just trying to save our lives...
